Maryland Adds One More Casino

Maryland is set to welcome another land-based casino located in south Baltimore this year. After much waiting, Horseshoe Casino is opening its doors this August 26, 2014, pending the approval of the regulation commission. Aside from the date, other details are still kept under wraps.

The Horseshoe Casino is worth more than $400 million, which is considerably cheaper than the other casinos in the country. To be located close to M&T Bank Stadium, it is scheduled to offer a wide array of features, facilities, and services to its guests and, most of all, players.

It is expected to have:

More than 100,000 square feet of casino floor with over 2,000 video slot m achiness and no less than a hundred table games; there will also be a poker room that can be used for World Series of Poker, with around 25 tables

• 2 high-class restaurants run by celebrity chefs (like Guy Fieri), a sushi bar, a noodle house, and the famous Jack Binion’s Steakhouse
• An incredible loyalty program for the players
• Live entertainment
• A bar that can serve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Once the casino opens, it can generate close to 2,000 permanent jobs.

Maryland has become one of the best options to those who don’t want the usually overcrowded Las Vegas. It has retained a good balance between other great attractions and casino gambling.

The history of Maryland gambling is quite long, though it was only sometime in the 1950s to 1960s that it started to become more open, by first letting slot operators do business. By 1973, they sold their first lottery tickets.

Across Maryland are other great casinos such as Rocky Gap Casino Resort located in Flintstone, Allegany County. It is called as such since it’s found right on the state park. It opened on May 22, 2013, after it went through some technical trouble, after it failed to pay the required fees for its license.

There’s also MGM National Harbor in Prince George County, which is still in its planning stage, but it’s expected to be a resort complex with a casino offering live table games and slot machines. It will cost more than $900 million. Maryland Live Casino, meanwhile, operates in Hanover in Anne Arundel. It is purely a casino facility that is planning to expand by adding a hotel and a spa. Last year, it added 2 more rooms for poker.

Gambling in Maryland

Gambling in the state still remains regulated, but players have different options if they want to play. The only thing that is not allowed is tribal gambling. This explains why the state has a growing and booming casino landscape. It’s also worth noting that it’s willing to provide operators opportunities such as in the case of Rocky Gap. When it failed to pay the fees, the state later on adjusted its tax rates in the area.

Online gambling, on the other hand, still remains a subject of great debate simply because the rules of the state are broad and, to a certain extent, vague.
