South African ZAR/RAND
South African Zar or South African rand as its called is official currency of Republic of South Africa .ISO 4217 currency code IS ZAR and Numeric code is 710.ZAR’s full form is Zuid Afrikaans Rand .South Africa was called Zuid Aficanne s Rand in Dutch language and thus this name has evolved for ZAR currency .1961 saw African independence and ZAR was introduced during this times .ZAR successfully replaced than currency of African pound. Cent is subunit of Zar so 100 cents equal to I zar .
The word Rand is derived from word ridges, the Witwatersrand is name of river ridge which African capital Johannesburg evolved this was the place where most gold deposits were found. And hence the name Rand which means ridge .R is local language for this currency.
South African reserve Bank is the authority to issue and circulate this currency .ZAR like most popular currencies all over the world is using decimal systems .Calculation, requirement and supply too form major function of Reserve bank .Government is the supreme authority when it comes to deciding the structure of currency like designs and denominations of coinage and banknotes .Cents are what is subunit of Zars and 100 cents =1 ZAR. Only small valued currencies are available in coins rest in Bank notes .Coins are minted in 1,2,5,10,20,50, cents and 1,2,5,rands.gold coin Kruger rand is the only coin which can be cashed in any corner of the world with equal exchange of gold bond or bullion .Mandela R coin is the coin which has smiling Mandela’s picture on it .bank Notes are printed only in denomination of 5 that is10,20,50and 100and 200 rands banknotes .
When Zar or rand was introduced in 1961 was introduced it even suppressed US dollar in terms of value this continued till almost 1982.but due to slow economy growth in south Africa , its value has decreased over a period of time .Although industry like tourism and mining specially gold mining industry have grown at higher rate due to ZAR’s low value .Import and export of ZArs above 5000R is permissible legally .There are some currencies on whose exchange this rule does not hold true .This are Lesotho ,Swazi a and Namibia together they are members of Common monetary Area along with South Africa though now Namibia is no mare part of this monetary union but still it accepts ZAR legally .Its mandatory to declare all currencies import as well as export in South Africa.
Currency ZAR is pegged with Lesotho loti, Swazi eligani and Namibian dollar at par this are currencies of Lesotho, Swazi a and Namibia countries respectively .all this countries together are members of Common monetary area

RAND or ZAR coins have bimetallic designs, serrated grooves on edges a special security feature and micro lettering features .They bear lot of similar to coins in Euros, baths and dollarsÂ
