Colman and His Memorable Poker Face

We have mentioned time and time again that we love to play and gamble. In fact, that is the reason we have this website! But we are not chronic gamblers, and certainly we do not play professionally. We just do not have the heart to do any of these.

That is why we salute professional poker players. Most of them see what they do as a real profession, investing time, money, and skill in order to win, and we say “win,” we are talking about millions of dollars. Take, for example, the recently concluded The Big One for One Drop.” The price at over $15.3 million is considered to be the second biggest winning so far in history, and any poker player who gets it is obviously one of the wealthiest among his peers.

Surely, too, if we get that insanely huge amount, we will be jumping for joy, or perhaps do more than that. Thus, it is a little bit surprising Dan Colman to see him looking like he did when he won the title of champion and of course the money. Just look at the video:

By now, you’re asking, what’s wrong with him? Isn’t he happy to win $15.3 million? His opponent, equally good Daniel Negreanu, was in better spirits despite getting about $8 million, which isn’t bad by the way.

We many not really know the real reason because he seemed to be trying to avoid talking to the media right after the game. Rather, he preferred to talk about what he thinks about his profession, and his words weren’t nice. He described it as a dark game since he tends to prey on the weaknesses of others. He also wouldn’t recommend anyone to play poker. He further added in a post published in Two Plus Two, he didn’t owe anything to the game, and not all pros—and rich, if we may add—really lived a very happy and contented life. Moreover, he obviously didn’t like the stress that comes along with it, especially since at the end of the day, poker still remains a game of chance. The stress, according to him, can only lead to unhealthy habits.

Based on his statements, many believed that the 23-year-old Brazil-residing player who started online was truly at the mercy of a lot of backers who could have some vested interest on his winnings. This simply means that perhaps in exchange for the buy-in worth a million dollars and other perks and offers, he will be sharing a percentage of his winnings to them, and that percentage can be as much as 90%. If this were true, it means only $1.53 million is really his.

Nevertheless, Colman had already won more than $16 million all throughout his career, which started only a few years ago. He won his first million a year before. He also had 2 money finishes in World Poker Tour.
