Roulette Odds for Different Roulette Bets for the Live Dealer Games. |
Just because you know how to play roulette does not mean that you know everything about the game. In fact, when you think you know how to play or that you are really good then you are probably over confident. When you walk up to a roulette table the dealer and more than likely the other players will assume you know the following rules so do not look stupid and learn them. Rules, Payouts, and Advantages
The following information on rules, payouts, and advantages are truly important to know. Spend some time reading this information so that you are better prepared to play roulette and increase your odds of winning.
The En Prison Rule
Both brick and mortar and online casinos use this rule, but not all of them. This particular rule comes into play for even money bets. When the result is zero, then this rule applies. In this situation the player may choose to take back his part of the bet or else leave it on the table for the next spin. If the following spin is a zero, then the player loses the entire bet.
The La Partage Rule
Many people confuse the La Partage rule with the En Prison rule, however they are different. In this rule the player loses half of his bet when the spin is zero and he is not allowed the option of leaving the bet for the next spin. This particular type of betting rule is not popular with casinos because it cuts into the house’s edge.
Payouts for the different roulette bets
The different payouts on each roulette bet can be found here. Here's a couple of comments above and beyond the scope of this article. When I've gone to a roulette casino I've found that somple players like to place two chips on a spit bet (2 number bet). I have always thought that this was a sucker bet because the payout is 17 to 1. If either one of the numbers happenned to play then the payout would be 34 and not 35, which would be the result if the player placed a chip on either number instead of in the middle.
- A 6 bet pays 5 to 1.
- Outside bets on even money pays one to one.
- Corner bets, also known as four number bets, pay 8 to 1.
- Two number bets are called split bets and pay 17 to 1.
- Bets on single numbers are called straight up bets and pays 35 to 1.
- Bets on the outside column or dozen pays 2 to 1
- Street bets, three number bets, pay 11 to 1.
Advantage
The House has a considerable advantage in the game of roulette. When you play on a table with only one zero (European Roulette) the house advantage is only 2.7%. However, when you play American Roulette on a table with double zeros the advantage increases to 5.26%, which is a big jump. When you win you still pay the house a chip or two and this is how the casino makes sure they make some money even when you win.
American Roulette Odds: 5.26% ( 7.89% on a 5 numbered bet. See Roulette Odds and Payouts graph)
European Roulette Odds: 2.7% ( 5.4% on a 5 numbered bet. See Roulette Odds and Payouts graph)
Sectors of the Roulette Wheel
Look at the wheel below to see the traditional sectors. You can see the Orphelins in gray, the voisins du Zero in green, Jeu 0 in light green, and Tiers du Cylindre in brown. The numbers encircle these sectors alternating black and red.
