Many people who play this game are surprised that this game does not value hands the same way that other variants do. For instance, pairs and flushes don’t matter in this game instead you try to create a hand that is known as Badugi, which is an ace, two, three, and four in all different suits. Many times this type of hand is known as a rainbow or mixed hand because each card is a different suit, forming a mixed or rainbow effect in the hand.
Badugi also changes things up a bit because the players can swap cards from the deck with the drawing of the cards being done in between rounds of betting. The game actually starts with betting and then drawing, though players aren’t required to draw new cards if they don’t want to. Bluffing is still a big part of this variant of poker and sometimes people will not draw or will draw just to throw off the other players and make them think that they have a better or worse hand than they actually do have.
As you can see, this is a totally different variant of poker than you are probably able to play in your local brick and mortar casino.
