Whirl or World

The Whirl or World is another bet that has five units bet in combination. It is a mixture of the any 7 bet and the horn bet. The idea is that the bet is a push if a 7 is rolled because the horn portions of the bet loses the money that was won.

Multi Roll Bets
Multi roll bets are bets that are not determined on the first roll and require an undetermined number of rolls to determine the outcome. The following are definitions of different multi roll bets.

Hard way

The Hard Way bet is betting that the shooter will go the “hard way” in throwing a 4, 6, 8 or 10. This is saying he will throw one of those numbers before he throws a 7. Now, the hard way means that a number is rolled with two identical  numbers on the dice. So, a 4 the hard way would be 2 on each dice rather than a 1 and a 3, which is considered the easy way. The hard way can easily be remembered as doubles

Easy way

The easy way is a bet that is the oppose it of the hard way. This bet is based on the shooter throwing a 4, 6, 8 or 10 before a 7 is thrown. An easy way throw is any value of the dice that is not based on identical values. So, an easy way 4 is a 3 and 1 and an easy way 6 could be a 4 and 2 or 5 and 1. As long as it is not identical it is the easy way. Generally, only by placing on a point number can these bets be made. This pays off on easy or hard rolls for the particular number.

Big 6 and Big 8

Experienced craps players generally avoid betting on Big 6 and Big 8 simply because they pay even money, which is 1 to 1.

Players can increase the payout by betting on the proposition that one of these numbers will be rolled before the 7 by betting g on the 6 or 8. This pays more at 6 to 5. You will find the Big 6 and Big 8 bet is not offered by all casinos. Those that do allow players to place the bets directly and they are located behind the pass line in the corner.

Place and buy

By saying “place the 6” or “Buy the 8” a player can buy or place and point number except the current point for numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. The wager must be placed in the come area before telling the dealer the bet.

The bet that the number bet will be rolled before a 7 is the same for the buy and place bets. Buy bets are paid at true odds with a 5% commission and place bets are paid at worse than true odds. In general, the commission for the buy bet is paid regardless, however some policies have begun changing their policies and only charging commissions for a win on the buy bet. Other casinos have instituted a policy to charge the commission as a onetime fee for buying a number when this is the case the payouts are paid at true odds.

For a $25 green chip it is common for casinos to charge $1, which is a 4% commission. A $50 bet, or two green chips, has a $2 charge, and this helps reduce the house advantage a little bit. Generally, when a commission is charged on wins it will be taken out of the winning payoff. For example if a $25 buy  pays $50 the $1 commission would be deducted for a total payout of $49.

Lay

The opposite of a buy/place bet is a lay bet. This is when a player chooses to bet that the 7 will be rolled before the laid number. Paying true odds, the lay bet is also charged a 5% commission. Not all casinos charge commission for all bets. Some only charge for wins. The commission with lay bets is the same as with buy bets and the amount is adjusted based on the betting unit so no fractions are paid out, just dollars.

The shooter can make a point before the final bet outcome has been decided on most multi roll bets. Like with the come bet, until the point is established the bets are considered “not working.” They are only “working” if the player calls out that they are. The rules vary from casino to casino so it is important to know what the rules are where you are playing.

Player bets

The following descriptions are overviews of the player bets in craps.

Fire Bet

A free bet is allowed at some casinos and this is simply a bet that is made before the shooter starts. This may be for $1 to $5, in some cases up to $10, and is betting on the next shooter and hoping he will set and get multiple valued points.

The fire symbol will mark the different points as they are made by the shooter. For the fire bet, there are no payouts for the first three points. However, increasing odds are paid for the fourth, fifth, and sixth points. For example, 25 to 1 odds are paid for the fourth point, which would be $125 for a $5 bet, the fifth point pays at 250-1 odds, which is $1250 for a $5 bet, and the 6th point pays considerably more at 1,000 to 1 odds. This would be $5000 for a $5 bet!

In order for the points to count towards the fire bet they must all be different. On the fire bet, a player that hits a point of 10 twice will only get credit for one point on the fire bet, rather than two, simply because it was the same number.
