Introduction to Craps

When it comes to Craps the house edge has a very wide range. It can be as low as 0%, which is great for the player, or as high as 16.67%, which is not good for the player! Educating yourself on the house edges for each bet is really important because it will increase your odds of winning and allow you to avoid the sucker bets that have really high house edges.

Craps

If you have ever watched a craps game you know that it is easily one of the most exciting games in the casino.  Craps usually incites yelling and shouting at the table and it is a game that involves a lot of luck and a bit of knowledge about the game.  Craps is a dice game and the overall integrity of the dice is something that is taken very seriously.  After eight hours of play the dice are replaced and if either of the dice fall from the table during game play they have to be inspected and could be replaced.

More About Craps

When you play craps you need to know that you can only use one hand when throwing them onto the table.  At a craps table you will usually find that there are up to 20 people sitting or standing around the table at any one time who are playing.  Each player gets a chance to shoot the dice.  The first roll of the dice is known as the Come Out Roll.  A come out roll is only made when the previous shooter didn't make a winning roll, which is defined as failing to make the Point or seven out.

When the shooter does not make his or her point the dice are offered to the next player for a new come out roll and the game will continue in the same manner until the dice make it around the table.  The new shooter is always the person to the left of the current shooter.  What this means is that the game moves clockwise around the craps table.

When you shoot the dice they are rolled across the craps table layout.  There are three basic areas of the craps table with two side areas being separated by a center line.  The two sides are the same and have the following things Pass and Don't Pass line bets, Come and Don't Com bets, Odds bet, Place bets, and Field bets.  The center area is one that is shared by both side areas and contains the Proposition bets.

Pass bets win when the come out roll is either seven or 11, pass bets lose when the come out roll is two, three, or 12. Don't bets lose when the come out roll is seven or 11, and don't bets win when the come out roll is two or three.  Don't bets tie when the come out roll is 12.

All of these different wins and losses can seem confusing when you first start playing, but once you play the game a couple times you will pick up on the numbers and when different bets win and lose.  When you play craps you will find that the house advantage varies wildly, anywhere between two to 17%!
