    When You Play Poker

    Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

When the cards are dealt by the dealer the betting will start! Players bet into the pot in the middle of the table and the bets are placed clockwise.  The player that has the highest rank hand showing is the first to speak as well as to bet and he or she can choose to either bet or check.  By saying check the player passes the decision to bet to the next player who can check, if all of the players check than it is the end of the poker round. At this time everyone will open up their hands and the player with the highest hand will win.

After one player places a bet the whole game picks up pace and excitement.  Each player can choose to call, raise, or fold.  To fold is to drop out of the round and not play anymore.  When you call it means you are willing to match the bet, and to raise means to match the bet and add an extra bet.  When there are no more raises this is the time when everyone will open up their cards and the highest hand wins the pot.
