| Roulette Bets: Terms You’ll Hear |
Straight Bet - When you play roulette you may hear the term straight bet and this is betting on a single number. When you do this your chip will be placed on the middle of a number square precisely. You may also hear of a split bet, and this is when you bet on two neighboring numbers. These numbers for the split bet can either be vertical or horizontal and the chip needs to be placed between the two numbers.
Street Bet - You may also hear of a street bet. This bet is the type that has the player betting on three numbers that are located in a horizontal line. When you bet a street bet you will need to place your chip on the edge of the line of the number that is located on the end. Sounds a bit convoluted but when you envision a roulette layout it becomes much clearer.
Corner or Square Bet - You may also hear the corner or square bet. This is betting on four numbers that are situated in a square, such as 11, 12, 14, and 15. When you make a corner or square bet you need to place your chip at the horizontal and vertical joint of the lines.
Inside Bets - The last of the inside bets, which is what we have covered so far is the sixline. This type of bet involves betting on two streets that meet. When you bet in this manner you need to place your chip at the intersection of the two streets.
Outside Bets - Outside bets are even money bets, group bets, and column bets. An even money bet is a bet on 18 numbers. When you bet this way you need to place your chip or chips in the corresponding box, such as the black, red, low, high, even, or odd. Group bets are a bet on the first, second, or third group of numbers. And a column bet is one that bets on all 12 numbers in any of the three vertical lines on the roulette layout. When you bet in this manner you need to place the chip below the final number string.
As you can see, there are a lot of different types of bets for you to choose from. You can play around with the different types of bets and see what works best for you. Some people like to develop strategies that include only betting on specific numbers, corners, lines, or columns. It simply depends on what you are comfortable with. If you are a beginner don’t worry yourself with memorizing all of the options right out of the gate, keep things simple and move on and try more things as you get more comfortable with the game.
